Promotional Packaging

I wanted to make packaging that had my physical hand in it, rather than make a mock-up of mailing boxes you may receive with a book or bookish subscription goodies inside. Instead, I thought it would be clever to decorate a book-shaped box to place my bookmarks and pins in.

This was a box purchased from a local craft store. It is plain wood with a magnetic closure so that it can stay closed standing upright. I stained it and covered it in a protective enamel spray. All details on the front, edges, and spine are hand-done with acrylic paint, ink, and gel pen. I took inspiration from my late father’s old collection of Shakespeare, as shown in the photo here. My owl logo, Avourel, was stenciled onto the surface, lightly carved into the wood with a pencil before carefully tracing the guidelines with a gold gel pen. What would be the pages were painted gold to emulate the look of sprayed edges, as pictured below.

Considering how my products would be placed inside is always my favorite part of wrapping a gift. A sheet of gold or white tissue paper would be laid within, the bottom covered by paper grass for cushioning. Then, each bookmark would be stacked side-by-side with enamel pins on top. Then, the tissue paper flaps would be folded over top and sealed with a blue or gold wax seal.
