Multiple Self Portrait

Oil on canvas, 36 x 48 in.

The objective of this was to make an introspective multiple self portrait with the rest of the subject matter being otherwise open-ended. Instead of making a goal for myself, I treated this as a cathartic experience, for at the time my father was beginning to lose his battle with cancer. The narrative of this painting was how me of the future would guide me of the present through chaos and towards a brighter, more peaceful future in hopes that it would make me feel less scared about my life situation. I kept the use of color in mind to demonstrate all that I had learned through the semester, but I wanted to treat this like something I’d make on my own time as well. This received a positive reaction from my class and professor.
