High & Low Contrast Paintings

Self Portrait, High Contrast, 2020

Oil on canvas, 36 x 36 in.

This was one half of a High/Low Contrast midterm assignment, wherein my objective was to display an understanding of using a high-contrast palette when applied to the figure. I worked from a photo, edited the levels, and made a color thumbnail mapping out where colors would be laid based on my light source. This resulted in a successful painting that was used as a lead example for peers who weren’t so successful.

Will, Low Contrast, 2020

Oil on Canvas, 36 x 36 in.

This was the other piece for the two-part series. The objective of this exercise was to display comprehension of the color theory topic on low-contrast palettes when applied to the figure. This resulted in a successful painting that was received well by my peers and the professor.
